Katlian Misty Mountains

Katlian Misty Mountains (wp0048)

I headed into the mountains before dawn and hiked the entire ridgeline from Verstovia to the Sisters, with a layer of clouds below me the entire time and blue skies above. It was an overcast day in town, but I sweated in the hot sun on the ridgetop and was thankful to find snowmelt in the higher parts for drinking water. Glacial snowmelt is the sweetest drink on a hot day in the mountains. When I got to the ridge dividing the Blue Lake drainage from the Katlian drainage, I looked into a seas of mist - blue skies and clouds below on my side of the ridge, and a misty veiled world on the other. I spent an hour just sitting on the ridge watching the mist move, and in that hour it spread to my side of the mountain, and for the next day and a half I could not see more than fifty feet at a time. On the way back the next day I watched a bear lope at the edge of visibility, me and the ghostly powerful spirit animal in our own mountain-top world.
